Your club's screen

01Before you start

Five minutes in the morning save you half an hour with people waiting.

• A TV with a browser. Any smart TV from the last few years has one.
• The TV and the computer do NOT need to be on the same wifi: both talk to ClubScore over the internet, not to each other.
• Test the wifi where the TV will actually be, not in the office.
• Bookmark clubscore.live/tv on the TV. You'll thank yourself next time you need it.
• Check the computer's clock: if it's running slow, ClubScore can get confused saving changes.

02Getting the tournament on the TV

This is the good path: the TV runs over the internet at full quality. No cables.

1. 1On the TV, open the browser and go to clubscore.live/tv. A big four-letter code appears.
2. 2From your computer, tablet or phone, open your tournament and tap «Send to a TV».
3. 3Type the code and tap «Send». The TV jumps there on its own: nothing else to touch.
4. 4Check the tournament card says «Display ON». If it says OFF, tap it.

The code expires: if the TV has been showing it for half an hour and nobody used it, a new one is generated. If you typed it and nothing happened, check whether the TV's code changed.

03If the TV crops the edges

The most common problem, and it's neither your fault nor ClubScore's.

Many TVs — LGs especially — zoom the picture slightly and show only the middle. It's called overscan, it comes from analogue television, and many TV browsers won't let you turn it off. You'll notice the right-hand column or the bottom row is missing.

1. 1The «Send to a TV» dialog has a margin control with − and +. Send it with «All visible» and see how it looks.
2. 2If the right side or the bottom is cut off, tap + two or three times.
3. 3Tap «Resend to last TV» and look again. Repeat until you can see the edges.

It's remembered for next time: once you've found the right value for your TV, you never touch it again.

04If the TV has no browser

Plan B: an HDMI cable from the computer. Always works, but looks worse.

What you need to ask the computer for has a name, and knowing it saves you half an hour of searching.

• Extended display — the TV is a separate second screen. The scoreboard goes there and the panel stays on your computer. This is what you want.
• Mirroring — the TV shows an exact copy of your computer. It works, but you have to keep switching between scoreboard and panel, and the audience sees everything you do.

On a Mac: System Settings → Displays → click the TV → «Use as» → Extended display. Full screen with ⌃⌘F. On Windows: ⊞ + P → Extend, then F11.

05Entering results from your phone

At the courtside, and the TV scoreboard refreshes on its own.

1. 1On your phone, sign in to clubscore.live with the club account.
2. 2Tap «Phone mode» — the button with the phone icon. It's in the tournament list and inside the tournament.
3. 3Pick the tournament and category: big + and − buttons made for fingers.

Why phone mode and not the normal panel: phone mode listens to the cloud live and always works from the latest version, even while someone else is entering results on the computer. The big panel doesn't, and if you leave it open it can fall behind.

How many devices at once? As many as you like: there is no limit. The only rule is common sense — split the matches between you, because if two people touch the same match in the same second, the last tap wins.

06When the wifi is weak

The outdoor courts are the black spot at almost every club.

ClubScore copes well with short dropouts: what you type on the phone isn't lost, it stays on the device and uploads when coverage returns. What happens is that the TV keeps showing the previous result until it does.

• If the TV looks behind, check the phone's signal before touching anything else. That's usually it.
• If you have to work a stretch with no coverage, write the results on paper and enter them together when the wifi is back.
• If you hand out player QR codes, check the wifi at the courts first. If it doesn't reach, the players can't use them, and it's the club that looks bad.

07If a yellow warning appears

«The screen hasn't been updated.»

It means the cloud has newer changes than this browser: usually because someone entered a result from another device, or an invited club saved their part. You haven't lost anything — everything on your screen is still there. It's just that ClubScore won't overwrite someone else's work.

• On the phone: it usually resolves itself. Close phone mode and go back in.
• On the computer: import the cloud copy and carry on from there.
• If it won't go away: check the computer's clock. A machine running slow causes exactly this warning, over and over.
